Why do you think people find it okay to teach myths   Thesus and the Minotaur (which was the inspiration for this book), and historical events including the Holocaust and  Native American history, but are protesting this book?

And most importantly...Team Gale or Team Peeta?

The Hunger Games

Some books are best sellers because they are just plain enjoyable reads (guilty as charged with with Janet Evanovitch! and the Stephanie Plum series)  Some are best sellers because they are well written and thought provoking like Harry Potter, The Help, and so many more.  The Hunger Games falls into the latter.  The series is wonderful! Suzanne Collins weaves action, adventure, mythology, sci-fi, romance, and philosophy into the book.  My son recognizes some of this from being a fan of the Percy Jackson series! It is a perfect book club read because there is an endless amount of topics for discussion.  If I was a ratings kind of blogger I would give it 5 stars.  Hmmmmm, maybe I should come up with something clever like Willy Waffles , waffles...perhaps cars!!!

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, 10 year anniversary read!

In 2006 we read, " A Widow's Walk" by Marian Fontana.  This September, the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attack, we chose Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close the remarkable book by Jonathan Safran Foer.  It has become a "must read" on many college lists as well as a book club favorite.  We had a great discussion and I can't recommend it highly enough!  The writing, editing and printing were all fascinating.  A fresh look at a tragic event!

The Earth Children Series Completed!

I am so excited I can hardly stand it.  It has been 30 years since I started this series.  I have given up, I have kicked,and screamed.  I even wrote a letter to the author begging for her to finish.  (I'm sure that was the tipping point!) At last my friends Ayla and Jondular return.  Here is the official clip.  I'll let you know what place I am on the library list!
